In observing the 65-th anniversary of the United Nations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hosted on October 29, 2009, the session of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) Summit that was held as a part of the Second Youth Conference “Kyiv International UN Model”.
Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine H.E. Mr. Yevgen Mykytenko addressed the participants.
In their statements the participants – students of the Kyiv National Shevchenko University, particularly the Institute of International Relations and other institutions of higher education of Ukraine as well as the foreign representatives - touched upon such global vital issues as elimination of poverty, hunger, HIV / AIDS, ensuring universal primary education, promoting gender equality, improving maternal health and reducing child mortality, sustainable development. The draft resolution “10 year review of the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals” was adopted.
The event was organized by the Student Parliament and the Scientific Society of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with the support of the MFA of Ukraine.
It is for the second time that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hosts such an event. Modeling the United Nations MDG’s Summit aims at giving a sort of training to the future international civil servants and providing them with practical experience on responding to the challenges of today’s world.
