Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine P.Poroshenko had a meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia S.Smith. Main focus of the talks was on renewing diplomatic and consular presence of Australia in Ukraine. It relation to this the Australian Minister has agreed to appoint in the nearest time a candidature for honorary consulate of Australia in Ukraine with the authority of issuing visas to the Ukrainian citizens.
At the same time S. Smith accepted arguments of the Ukrainian Minister as to the importance of opening a full-fledged diplomatic representation office of Australia in Ukraine. The Parties also agreed to launch negotiations on visa liberalization between the two countries. Particular attention was given to enhancing cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as to new common projects in the field of agriculture.
Heads of the foreign policy offices of Ukraine and Australia discussed a possibility of setting up a roadmap of bilateral cooperation for 2010-2011.
Australian Minister handed over an invitation to the President of Ukraine to visit Australia at a convenient time.
It was also agreed to intensify political dialogue between the Ministers, inter alia, via reciprocal visits.
