On a joint initiative of the Government of the Great Britain, the Government of Afghanistan and the United Nations, the International Conference on Afghanistan is being held in London

Today, on the 28 of January 2010, on a joint initiative of the Government of the Great Britain, the Government of Afghanistan and the United Nations, the International Conference on Afghanistan is being held in London. Around 80 high level delegations take part in this event. The Conference participating states are represented by prime-ministers, vice-ministers and ministers of foreign affairs. The delegation of Ukraine is headed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Petro Poroshenko.

The conference was opened by the Prime-minister of Great Britain Mr. Gordon Brown, the President of Afghanistan Mr. Xamid Karzai and the Secretary General of the United Nations Organisation Mr. Ban Ki Moon.

The main issues to be addressed during the conference are: security, national and local government of Afghanistan, regional infrastructure and coordination of the international community assistance. The Conference is planned to be concluded with the joint communiqué.
