Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Iurie Leanca in Velyka Kisnytsya village (Yampol district, Vinnytsya region, Ukraine), delimitation point Nr.194, installed the first border sign on the central segment of the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border. In the official ceremony also took part the representatives of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), of the Embassy of Spain, of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine.
The installation of the first border sign represents a launche of the final stage of the demarcation of the joint Ukrainian-Moldovan state border and comes in line with the national interests of the both states. The finalization of the demarcation and the guaranteeing of the indispensable facilities for the state border between Ukraine and Republic of Moldova is a significant input to the consolidation of the statehood and assurance of the security of the both countries. This will also contribute to the straightening of the regional security and liquidation of the risks and dangers caused by the uncontrolled borders.
The installation of the of the first border sign on the central segment of the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border is an evidence of the readiness of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to settle the problematic issues of the bilateral relationships in line with the national interests of both states based on the European norms and standards. The finalization of the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border will eliminate the obstacles on the way to its full-scale exploitation, will bring the citizens border crossing regime in line with the European standards, will facilitate the cargo movement and will combat the smuggling and illegal trafficking.
As it was stated in the Joint Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Iurie Leanca the start of demarcation of the central segment of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border was an indispensable element of the Transnistrian settlement process with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministers of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova expressed the support for the resume of the negotiation process on Transnistrian settlement in the 5+2 format in the shortest possible time.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Iurie Leanca underlined the positive strides attended in 2009 in the mutually profitable and effective settlement of the old problematic issues of the bilateral relationships. For the aim of further preservation of the dynamics reached in 2009 and coordination of the foreign activity of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova including the European integration area Petro Poroshenko and Iurie Leanca signed the Consultations Plan between the Ministry of foreign affairs of Ukraine and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova for 2010.
Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova voiced the hope that the both countries efforts were aimed to fulfill the bilateral collaboration with a new content and to attend concrete practical results. This will give the chance to lead the relationship between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the level of strategic cooperation in the European integration context.
