On July 8 Deputy Foreign Minister Yevhen Mykytenko received the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ukraine Shorsh Said.

The Ambassador of Iraq briefed on the political, economic and security situation in Iraq.

During the meeting the Sides discussed the mechanisms of further promotion of trade and economic cooperation (Ukrainian exports to Iraq in 2009 totaled 240 million dollars). The process of implementation of the previously reached contracts was assessed as well.

The Sides agreed on the importance to hold during the current year a joint meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Iraqi Commission on trade and economic cooperation and the next round of political consultations between Foreign Ministries of both states after the formation of the Iraqi Government.

Special attention was paid to the development of the legal basis of the Ukrainian-Iraqi relations.
