The 36th session of the General Conference of UNESCO started is work on the 25th of October 2011 in Paris

193 delegations of UNESCO Member States, as well as associated members, observes, representatives of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations will take part at the session that is usually held on a biennial basis.

The Ukrainian delegation also participates in the work of the 36th session of the General Conference.

Among the main topics of the session’s agenda, that is usually held on a biennial basis – adoption of the Program and Budget of the Organization for 2012-2013, elections to the Executive Board and intergovernmental bodies and committees, preparation of the new Mid-term strategy of UNESCO.

A number of other important events will take place within the framework of the General Conference:

1) Leader’s Forum “How does UNESCO contribute to building a culture of peace and to sustainable development?” (26 and 27 October);

2) special plenary meeting on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity (2 November);

3) exhibition “Open UNESCO”.

This session of the General Conference will be held till 10 November 2011.
