On July 14, 2011 during an official visit to Turkey Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko met with PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
The parties discussed the issues of cooperation between the Council of Europe and the European Union in the context of the recent session in Strasbourg. K.Gryshchenko and M Çavuşoğlu stressed on the important role of the EU in projects and programs of the Council of Europe within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Europe and the EU (2007), which is aimed at strengthening cooperation between the CE and EU in such spheres as human rights and fundamental freedoms protection, democratic development, intercultural dialogue, social sphere and youth policies.
The participants in the meeting also dealt with the ways of realization of priorities of Ukraine’s presidency of the Council of Europe and touched on the issues of the organization’s agenda.
Messrs Gryshchenko and Çavuşoğlu exchanged opinions on the security and cooperation in the region, in particular the settlement of the frozen conflicts.
