The EU Regional Workshop on Arms Export Controls for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine representatives was held in Kyiv on July 18-19, 2018. This event took place with coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and assistance of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the Germany Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA).
The Workshop has become the first event for East-European and Caucasian states in the framework of implementation of EU Council Decision 2018/101/CFSP, which approved the newest EU cooperation program in the area of arms export controls from April 2018 to March 2020.
There were discussed the recent trends in the export control for military items, in particular regarding brokering control, including that from a customs perspective, electronic licensing databases, international compliance programs and industry audits, prosecution and sanctions. The experience of South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) and Conflict Armament Research (CAR) were presented as well.
