In London, First Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv, Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom Natalia Galibarenko and President of the Ukrainian World Congress Eugene Czolij, together with members of British Ukrainian community, joined the international action Light a Candle of Remembrance and laid wreaths to Europe’s oldest monument to the victims of the 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine.
The names of eighty-five children – a small fraction of the millions of young people who died in the manmade tragedy across Ukraine – were read out. The memory of the innocent victims of the genocide was honoured in a moment of silence. Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox and Ukrainian Greek Catholic clergy led everyone in commemorative prayer.
By the lighting of a ceremonial candle, commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine was opened in the United Kingdom.
