This was noted during negotiations on October 30 in Kyiv of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and the Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne. The French Minister of State came to Kyiv as co-chair of the Ukrainian-French Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and led a high-level delegation of business representatives from Paris.

Pavlo Klimkin and Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne expressed satisfaction with the state of bilateral political relations and underlined a significant potential of trade and economic cooperation, which has recently show a tendency for growth. The VII-th meeting of the Ukrainian-French Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation on 30 October in Kyiv creates new prerequisites for increasing French investments in the Ukrainian economy. According to the French side, the success of the Ukraine in implementing systemic reforms provides a favorable timing in this regard.

Pavlo Klimkin expressed his gratitude to France for the strong support for Ukraine in protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, in particular, he noted the close interaction of the two countries in the Normandy format, as well as in the framework of international organizations. The Foreign Minister of Ukraine emphasized the importance of further pressure on Russia to liberate Ukrainian citizens illegally detained in Russian prisons and in the occupied Crimea.

The parties agreed on further steps of cooperation within the framework of the French Group of Seven presidency in 2019.
