On February 9, Andrii Melnyk, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, held video meeting with Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation of the Republic of Suriname, Ambassador Miriam Mac Intosh.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister transmitted words of gratitude from Ukrainians to the President of Suriname, Chan Santokhi, for his participation in the summit of the International Crimea Platform in August 2022, and his speech that provided a new impetus to bilateral relations.
Andrii Melnyk also expressed gratitude to the Surinamese side for the support of Ukraine within the international organizations, foremost in the UN, as well as the interest of our country to further intensify political dialogue as a follow-up of the phone conversation between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Surinamese colleague Albert Ramdin.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister paid a special attention to the Peace Formula Plan, initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and called on Suriname to join the implementation of one or more specific points of this diplomatic initiative.
On her turn, Ambassador Mac Intosh confirmed the unwavering support of Suriname to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and solidarity with Ukrainian people suffering from the Russian aggression. The harmful impact of this aggression on food and energy security of the world is felt also in Latin American region.
Counterparts also discussed possible ways of developing cooperation in different areas, particularly in the agro-industrial complex, IT-sphere, organizing an online B2B meeting between business circles of both countries and expanding the legal base of bilateral relations in the economic sphere.
In order to intensify the bilateral political dialogue the Sides agreed to initiate this year the mechanism of regular political consultations between the two foreign ministries. Andrii Melnyk invited his Surinamese colleague to visit Kyiv at her convenience.
