On 11 September, Deputy Foreign Minister, Chief Digital Transformation Officer Andrii Droniuk held a meeting with Annette Kroeber-Riel, Google Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy in Europe.

The parties discussed further cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Google in the areas of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital and public diplomacy, countering disinformation, and protecting the information environment.

Andrii Droniuk highly valued Google’s cooperation with Ukraine, including its engagement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ukrainian Institute, and stressed the importance of developing a systematic and long-term technological partnership.

“Technological advantage has become an integral element of national security. Ukraine is interested not only in applying advanced digital solutions, but also in building a long-term technological partnership that will strengthen our cyber resilience, diplomatic capabilities, and ability to counter Russian hybrid threats. By strengthening Ukraine, we are also strengthening Europe’s digital resilience,” Andrii Droniuk emphasized.

Particular attention was paid to cultural diplomacy and the partnership between the Ukrainian Institute and Google Arts & Culture. The discussion focused on the digitization and international promotion of Ukraine’s cultural heritage, expanding the global reach of Ukrainian content, and implementing joint information campaigns.

The parties also discussed strengthening the cyber protection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ukraine’s diplomatic missions abroad, including the early detection of cyber threats. They also considered the introduction of secure AI-based solutions to support internal workflows, analytical work, and document processing.

Andrii Droniuk highlighted the importance of automated monitoring of the international information environment for the early detection of Russian disinformation campaigns. The parties discussed opportunities to use Google’s technological capabilities to enhance the speed, evidence base, and effectiveness of Ukraine’s response to information threats.

The meeting also addressed the incorrect cartographic depiction of Ukraine’s territory on Google Maps. The Deputy Foreign Minister underscored the need to ensure that Ukraine is displayed within its internationally recognized borders, regardless of the user’s location.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue expert-level consultations and intensify the practical implementation of joint initiatives.
