On July 9-10, Deputy Foreign Minister, Chief Digital Transformation Officer Andrii Droniuk visited Berlin (Germany) to participate in the High-Level Conference on the topic: “Shaping cybersecurity – Moscow’s shadow beyond Ukraine: Russia’s cyber threat to European security”.
As part of the opening of the Conference, the Deputy Minister delivered a report in which he noted, in particular, that Russian aggression against Ukraine has transformed into a strategic security challenge for the European continent, where destructive operations by the Russian Federation are aimed not only at undermining the work of information systems, but also at establishing long-term access to government institutions, strategic industries and political decision-making processes in Europe.
“Russia has created an industrial-scale cyber ecosystem involving intelligence services, military structures, and specialized offensive units. Russia’s cyber aggression is no longer directed exclusively against Ukraine, but is steadily spreading throughout Europe through attacks on governments, critical infrastructure, democratic institutions, and digital systems that form the foundation of national economies”, the Deputy Minister noted.
Andrii Droniuk also noted the importance of Ukraine’s early full integration into the EU so that the practical experience and capabilities of our state in countering Russian cyber aggression could be fully used to ensure the security of EU states and wider Europe.
As part of the visit, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine met with State Secretary of the German Federal Foreign Office Andreas von Geyr, during which the Ukrainian diplomat expressed gratitude to the German side for the systematic and consistent support provided to Ukraine in the context of countering Russian armed aggression against our state. During the conversation the German diplomat noted the importance of Ukraine as an integral part of ensuring European security.
In addition, meetings were held with the State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation Markus Richter, as well as the President of the German Federal Office for Information Security of Germany Claudia Plattner, during which the parties discussed further steps in the development of Ukrainian-German cooperation in the development and security of the digital space.
Andrii Droniuk also held a series of meetings at the German Federal Foreign Office with representatives of technology companies and member states of the Tallinn Mechanism, and participated in a roundtable discussion on ways to further cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in countering Russian cyber aggression against Ukraine and EU member states.
