Andrii Sybiha: MFA Strengthens Consular Support for Ukrainians in the Middle East
02 March 2026 16:04

On Monday, March 2, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha announced that Ukrainian diplomacy is actively monitoring developments in the Middle East following the escalation of the security situation surrounding Iran.

"Our utmost priority is the safety of our citizens. Following the instructions of the President of Ukraine, the MFA is working to ensure effective consular assistance to Ukrainian citizens. Currently, there are approximately 250,000 Ukrainians in the region," stated the Head of the MFA.

The Minister declared that the MFA Consular Service remains in constant contact with Ukrainian citizens, while embassies are coordinating with local services, host country authorities, and European partners.

"As of now, fortunately, there is no information regarding injuries or deaths of Ukrainian citizens due to the deteriorating security situation. We are aware of departure issues in countries where airspace is closed. In all such situations, embassies are in contact with citizens, providing necessary consultations," he noted.

According to Andrii Sybiha, the MFA, in cooperation with European partners, has already successfully relocated some citizens overland to safe locations, specifically to Egypt. The Minister reported that as of this morning, the MFA's 24-hour hotline has received approximately thirty inquiries—a manageable number primarily concerning flight delays.

"We are analyzing the development of events and preparing all possible response scenarios, including evacuation, to guarantee the safety of Ukrainian citizens," the diplomat stated.

The Foreign Minister urged Ukrainians in the region to adhere to safety measures and closely follow updates from Ukrainian diplomatic missions and local authorities.
