Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "On the sidelines of the Chornobyl International Conference on Nuclear Safety and Recovery, I had a meeting with Director General of the IAEA Rafael Grossi.
I informed Mr.Grossi about Russia’s ongoing attacks against Ukraine, including systematic strikes on our energy infrastructure. This year Ukraine has endured the most difficult winter, demonstrating resilience under constant Russian attacks.
I thanked Director General for his unwavering attention to Ukraine, for keeping our issues high on the international agenda, and for his personal leadership. His more than ten visits to Ukraine are a powerful sign of commitment and support that we deeply value.
We also discussed the importance of maintaining the IAEA monitoring missions at the nuclear power plants and substation, especially at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Their continued presence is essential to counter Russia’s nuclear blackmail and reduce risks to nuclear safety in the region.
Our focus also included strengthening the protection of nuclear power plants and substations from Russian attacks. We welcomed the signing today of a Memorandum between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the IAEA on expanded cooperation in nuclear safety and the recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector.
We agreed to advance concrete steps to support the health and recovery of Ukrainian children through recreation programs for children of Ukraine’s nuclear power plant employees".
