On July 31, 2024, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha held a meeting with Country Director of the International Medical Corps in Ukraine Matthew Stearns.
The parties discussed the situation in Ukraine's medical sector, which remains challenging due to Russian aggression. Particular attention was paid to the significant destruction of hospitals as a result of Russian missile attacks and, consequently, limited access of Ukrainian citizens to proper medical care.
The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude for the active work of the International Medical Corps (IMC) aimed at overcoming humanitarian challenges in the healthcare sector and hopes for continued support for Ukrainians suffering from Russian aggression.
The Head of the IMC assured that they will continue to assist Ukraine in rebuilding hospitals, ensuring access to necessary medical care, as well as implementing programs to support mental health and physical rehabilitation for those affected by the war. He noted that the IMC has already allocated $100 million for the implementation of relevant projects in Ukraine.
Matthew Stearns also informed about the organization's active cooperation within the framework of the mental health support program initiated by First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, together with the Coordination Center for Mental Health of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, to help our country overcome humanitarian challenges.
