First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha held a meeting with the UN Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Morris Tidball-Binz, who is on a monitoring visit to Ukraine.
Andriy Sybiha thanked to Morris Tidball-Binz for visiting the cities of Kharkiv and Dnipro, where the UN representative was able to meet personally with victims of Russia’s war crimes, as well as to visit the sites where such illegal actions had occurred to collect evidence of human rights violations committed by the aggressor country. The Special Rapporteur, for his part, informed the Ukrainian diplomat on the preliminary findings drawing following his visit to Ukraine.
The First Deputy Minister noted that proper documentation and investigation of extrajudicial, summary, and arbitrary executions of Ukrainian civilians and Ukrainian prisoners of war would contribute to the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and to the bringing to account the highest political and military leadership of the aggressor state, Russia.
The parties discussed enhancing further cooperation between Ukraine and United Nations, particularly to ensure adequate medical and legal aid for victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The importance of continued involvement of the international community in providing proactive assistance to our country, including by exchanging national experiences in establishing justice for victims of torture and arbitrary executions and their families, was emphasized.
