Andrii Sybiha: Ukrainian resolution in UN General Assembly condemning Russian aggression will be put to vote and has support
23 February 2025 16:40

During his speech at the ‘Ukraine. Year 2025‘ forum, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha answered journalists’ questions about the prospects for the adoption of a Ukrainian resolution in the UN General Assembly dedicated to the third anniversary of full-scale Russian aggression.

The Minister said that the Ukrainian resolution in the UN General Assembly is at the stage of finalising the registration of the submission and has 56 co-sponsors.

‘This is a significant number of like-minded states that support the Ukrainian side, but it is primarily about principles, because the Ukrainian resolution is about supporting territorial integrity and sovereignty, international law and the UN Charter,’ the Minister noted.

Andrii Sybiha said that Ukraine had been informed by the US side at the level of the UN mission of the US intention to submit its own short resolution to the UN General Assembly on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The Minister noted that the American and Ukrainian resolutions are not mutually exclusive, as the Ukrainian document focuses on the anniversary and the consistent position that has been reflected on the UN platform since the full-scale Russian invasion.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also said that the diplomatic process to attract additional support for the Ukrainian resolution is ongoing.

‘As a minister, over the past day and a half, I have had 22 telephone conversations and many contacts by text. We have support, but in order to make appropriate decisions, we need to understand the position of the partners who co-sponsored the resolution,' the Minister stressed.

Andrii Sybiha assured of the firm support of Ukraine's partners for the adoption of the resolution and said that the document would be put to a vote in the UN General Assembly.
