Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha: "Today, Russians deliberately struck a school in Kyiv while children were in class and a bridge while a metro train was crossing it. Following the recent devastating attack on the National Academy of Sciences, another Russian drone hit the grounds of the Institute for Nuclear Research, where a research nuclear reactor is located. Thankfully, no one was injured, the reactor was not damaged, and radiation levels remain normal.
This is the brutality and cynicism of Russia's war in its clearest form. Russia is trying to erase Ukraine's identity, scientific and intellectual potential, as well as deprive its children of a normal childhood and the right to learn. Yet Moscow systematically brings its war into each of these spaces, seeking to make normal life itself impossible.
Russia has already damaged 4,278 schools across Ukraine and completely destroyed 428. In Kyiv, every third school has suffered damage. Protecting the possibility for Ukrainian children to continue learning is therefore a matter of resilience and of defending Ukraine's future.
I thank the 12 countries and four international organisations that have joined the Shelter Coalition, as well as the EU for its additional €10 million contribution. We invite more partners to join.
Russia is testing how far its terror can reach. Our collective task is to make sure there is a limit — one set by our ability to protect people, defend normal life, and make Russia pay for every attack".
