08 July 2026 09:01

On Wednesday, July 8, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha participated in the Ukraine–NATO Council meeting in Ankara.

The Foreign Minister briefed partners on the consequences of Russia's latest attacks, as well as on Ukraine's successes on the battlefield, in the defence industry, and in long-range sanctions against the aggressor.

"The strength of Ukraine's defenders brings peace closer. But for this we need the unwavering support of our allies. Air defence remains the top priority. I conveyed the urgency of strengthening protection against ballistic threats. Putin is betting on ballistic terror as his last advantage. That is why ballistic defence is not only about saving lives — it is a way to compel Moscow to end the war," the Minister noted.

Andrii Sybiha stated that Ukraine urgently needs timely deliveries of air defence systems and interceptors, especially ahead of winter. The Minister stressed that additional contributions to PURL are critically important. According to him, at this stage the battle for the skies will determine the trajectory of the war. Therefore, winning in the air is critically important for ending the war.

"Ukraine is no longer a country simply seeking protection; Ukraine is a security partner and contributor. We are able to bring to collective security our unique strength, experience and innovations. NATO 3.0 will not be complete without Ukraine. Together we are strengthening our shared security and bringing closer a lasting peace for Ukraine and the rest of Europe," he remarked.

The Minister expressed gratitude to all allies for their steadfast support and commitment, the additional contributions announced at the meeting, and their belief in Ukraine's ability to prevail.
