On January 30, Andriy Melnyk, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine held an online meeting with Reita Toussaint, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the current issues of the bilateral agenda, further cooperation within the framework of the UN and other international organizations, as well as security threats stemming from the full-fledged Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Andriy Melnyk expressed his gratitude to Trinidad and Tobago for supporting Ukraine within the UN in the context of countering Russian aggression; he also briefed his counterpart on the current situation in our country, in particular with regard to ongoing missile attacks against critical infrastructure of Ukraine.
In this regard, the Deputy Foreign Minister elaborated on key elements of the Peace Formula Plan, initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and called on the Trinidad and Tobago to join this peace initiative, based on the UN Charter principles.
Reita Toussaint reconfirmed that support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine remains a matter of principle for Trinidad and Tobago; she also underlined that the UN Charter should be a basis for peaceful resolution.
Counterparts discussed the prospects of deepening Ukraine-CARICOM cooperation, as well as agreed to continue an active dialogue aimed at supporting initiatives of both states within the UN.
The Sides agreed to maintain close working contacts and to hold political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of two States at the level of deputy heads of ministries during this year.
