On January 27, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Melnyk held an online meeting with the Assistant Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Sandra McCardell.
Andriy Melnyk expressed his gratitude to the Canadian party for the significant financial assistance and high-tech weaponry that is actively used to protect our state from armed aggression by the Russian Federation as well as the training of servicemen of the Armed Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine as a part of the relevant training mission.
The significant importance of expanding the further supply of heavy equipment and modern types of weapons was underlined. The Ukrainian diplomat particularly drew attention to the importance of provision of 200 Senator armored personnel carriers, the NASAMS system and Canada's involvement in the global tank coalition through the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks.
The interlocutors emphasized the close personal dialogue between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and also discussed current issues of the agenda of bilateral relations and ways to intensify the political dialogue in this year.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine paid particular attention to the possible formats of Canada's involvement in the implementation of the Peace Formula proposed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In the context of approaching anniversary of the russian federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the two interlocutors agreed to coordinate efforts to hold events and to draw attention to its consequences within the framework of relevant international platforms. Andriy Melnyk expressed his gratitude for official Ottawa's support of important pro-Ukrainian resolutions within the framework of the UN.
In view of the significant casualties among the civilian population and damage to the infrastructure as a result of the full-scale invasion of russia, possible solutions were considered to ensure the responsibility of the aggressor-state and to create a comprehensive international compensation mechanism for the damage caused to Ukraine and its citizens.
Diplomats of the two countries also exchanged views on deepening regional cooperation in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.
It was agreed to maintain a permanent working dialogue and to hold political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two states at the level of deputy heads of Ministries during this year.
