The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commends the Statement of the International Partnership against Impunity for the Use of Chemical Weapons, of which Ukraine is a member, in connection with the publication on April 8, 2020 by the Technical Secretariat of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) of the first report of the Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) concerning the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Arab Republic.
In its report, the IIT concluded that there were reasonable grounds to believe that persons belonging to the Syrian Air Force were responsible for the use of sarin as a chemical weapon in Ltamenah, Syria, on 24 and 30 March 2017 and chlorine on 25 March 2017.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine urges to take all measures that those responsible for the use of chemical weapons be held accountable. Ukraine remains unwavering in its commitment to global efforts to prevent the use and proliferation of such weapons under any circumstances, and to fight impunity of such abhorrent crimes.
