On 9 March 2020, the District Court of The Hague will start its criminal trial of four individual suspected of downing the flight MH17.
We believe that it is the first step to establish justice and to bring to accountability all those involved in causing death to 298 innocent people, 193 among whom were citizens of the Netherlands.
Dutch prosecutors will present the position based on materials of the Joint Investigation Team that comprises of representatives of law enforcement authorities of the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia and Ukraine. Representatives of the Office of General Prosecutor, Security Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will participate in court hearings as observers.
The judicial system of the Netherlands has proved to be independent, impartial and effective. That’s why Ukraine transferred its criminal proceedings to the Netherlands according to the agreement of all countries – participants of JIT.
Ukraine is committed to continue its work for bringing the Russian Federation to international liability on its violation of the International convention on preventing of terrorism financing in the International Court of Justice.
