Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Melnyk, guided by the instructions of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on further developing and enhancing the relations with the countries of the Americas, held online meeting with with Assistant Deputy Foreign Minister of Canada, Ambassador Michael Grant.
At the outset of the meeting, Andrii Melnyk expressed gratitude to Canadian Government for a powerful support provided to Ukraine in the military, financial and humanitarian spheres aiming at stopping the Moscow’s armed aggression and restoring territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country.
The main goal of the meeting was to discuss common approaches to the cooperation of Ukraine and Canada in order to intensify cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean nations.
In this regard, Andrii Melnyk familiarized his Canadian colleague with new priorities of Ukraine’s foreign policy in the Latin American region, the intention of Ukrainian leadership to reset our country’s relations with this strategically important region.
A frank exchange of opinions took place on possible areas of cooperation between both countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, in particular, within the context of counteracting the Russian aggression.
Deputy Minister Michael Grant assured that Ottawa would be ready to provide practical assistance in developing contacts between Ukraine and the Americas, including using the possibilities of Canadian diplomatic missions in the region.
The parties agreed to continue maintaining close communication on Latin America issues on a regular basis.
