On December 12, the 41st Meeting of the GUAM Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs was held in Brussels under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili and the Republic of Moldova Nicu Popescu, as well as by the GUAM Secretary General Altai Efendiev.
Dmytro Kuleba informed his colleagues about the current situation on the frontlines of the Russian-Ukrainian war. He also outlined the impact of Russian aggression on the region.
"Russia's aggression against Ukraine undermines the security situation in the GUAM region. Ukraine's victory is crucial for the restoration of security and stability in our countries and the development of interregional infrastructure and trade projects," - Dmytro Kuleba emphasized.
Dmytro Kuleba informed the ministers about the promotion of the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula as the only possible "roadmap" for the restoration of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine separately stressed the need to strengthen the coordination and mutual support of the GUAM Member States within the framework of international organizations, in particular within the UN.
The Ukrainian Minister outlined the main results of the Ukraine's Chairmanship in the GUAM in 2023 and wished success to his Azerbaijani colleague in carrying out this important mission next year.
"We are ready to actively cooperate with the Azerbaijani Side on all issues of the GUAM agenda in order to restore stability and prosperity in the region," - noted Dmytro Kuleba.
The ministers of foreign affairs discussed in detail the implementation of the GUAM Transport Corridor project, in particular in cooperation with the EU. They emphasized the importance of GUAM interaction with the countries of Central Asia and China. They also paid particular attention to steps aimed at increasing trade volumes and implementing projects in the field of digitalization of public services.
The participants of the meeting also adopted a number of organizational decisions to ensure the GUAM activities in 2024.
