The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held talks with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Jeppe Kofod during his visit to Copenhagen.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy briefed his Danish counterpart on the security situation at the state border and in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as on the results of the meeting of advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format countries in Paris on January 26.
“The Russian Federation is tries to undermine the security not only of Ukraine but of Europe as a whole. We work actively to consolidate the international community in order to effectively counter Russia’s aggressive actions, as this will determine the future of the security architecture in the entire Euro-Atlantic region,” Dmytro Kuleba stressed.
The Minister expressed gratitude to Jeppe Kofod for Denmark’s solidarity with Ukraine against the background of Russia’s aggression, his personal contribution to the consolidation of international support and the implementation of a comprehensive deterrence package for Russia, which demotivates it from implementing aggressive plans in Europe.
“Denmark demonstrates real leadership, standing side by side with Ukraine at this time of increased threats from Russia,” Dmytro Kuleba said.
The Minister added that Ukraine highly appreciates Denmark’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country, both bilaterally and within the EU and NATO. According to the Minister, Denmark’s allocation of additional 22 million euros to the security sector of Ukraine is an important contribution to the stability and security of our country.
Ministers also discussed the preparation of a package of tough EU economic sanctions against Russia, as well as strengthening cooperation to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and bolster our country’s cybersecurity.
The Danish Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s readiness to further strengthen Ukraine’s resilience amid Russia’s aggressive actions.
At the request of Dmytro Kuleba, Denmark agreed to consider additional support options to ensure Ukraine’s financial and economic stability.
Ministers discussed the implementation of joint investment projects. According to the Danish government’s decision, Ukraine will be a key recipient of Denmark’s technical assistance within the next phase of the Danish Eastern Neighbourhood Programme (DANEP) 2022-2026 with a total budget of 170 million euros, 73 of which will be directed to projects in Ukraine.
“We highly appreciate the Danish government’s willingness to increase economic and investment cooperation with Ukraine. This sends a clear signal to foreign investors that despite security challenges, the situation remains under control, our country shows economic growth, it is attractive for investment and successful commercial projects,” Dmytro Kuleba emphasized.
The Minister also met with leading experts and representatives of Danish NGOs. He informed them about Ukraine’s efforts aimed at protecting peace, justice and security in Europe, and finding ways for political and diplomatic settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.
