On February 17, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (CDTO) Dmytro Senik met with Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Kuninori Matsuda.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the security situation along the Ukrainian borders in the context of increasing threats from the Russian Federation and expressed a common position on the importance of resolving the situation peacefully.

Dmytro Senik expressed gratitude to the Japanese side for consistent support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity at the bilateral level and in the format of the Group of Seven, within international organizations, as well as for providing financial, credit and humanitarian assistance to our state.

The Deputy Minister stressed the importance of the recent adoption by the Parliament of Japan of the resolution calling for the restoration of peace and regional stability amid escalation of tension around Ukraine.

The diplomats expressed readiness to promote further deepening of cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in the political, security, trade, investment, humanitarian and other spheres.

For reference: according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in 2021 the growth of bilateral trade, compared to 2020, was about 20% - from 1 billion 270 million USD up to 1 billion 574 million USD. During this period, the volume of exports of goods from Ukraine to Japan has almost doubled - from 190 million USD up to 347 million USD.

During 2014-2021, the Government of Japan allocated 55.93 million USD as a humanitarian aid for the projects of rebuilding the eastern regions of Ukraine, supporting and rehabilitation of the affected people, etc.

On February 8-9, 2022, during the plenary sessions of the House of Representatives (lower house) and the House of Councilors (upper house) of the Parliament of Japan, the resolution calling for peace and regional stability amid escalation of tension around Ukraine was unanimously adopted.
