Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held negotiations with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Mariano Grossi.
The parties discussed the application of the IAEA safeguards to all nuclear facilities in Ukraine, in particular on the temporarily occupied territories, according to the provisions of the Agreement between Ukraine and the Agency.
Rafael Mariano Grossi reiterated the Agency`s clear position: it will be negotiating solely with Ukraine regarding all nuclear facilities on the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the Crimea since it recognizes Ukraine’s sovereignty over them exclusively.
The parties discussed the possibilities for the increase of Ukraine`s representation in the IAEA Secretariat, paying specific attention to the provision of equal opportunities to men and women.
The IAEA Director Genera also encouraged Ukrainian female scientists and students to participate in the IAEA Marie Sklodowska Curie Fellowship Programme.
The parties exchanged views on a number of issues of international agenda and complimenting the high level of cooperation between Ukraine and the IAEA on a wide range of bilateral issues: from combating the COVID-19 pandemics in Ukraine to cancer treatment.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the IAEA for its long-term support of the efforts by the Government of Ukraine aiming to eliminate the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster. The Director General assured that the Agency would continue this successful cooperation.
