On 23 May 2021, at the request of the Ukrainian side, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukri.
The Head of Ukrainian diplomacy commended the peacekeeping efforts of Egypt and personally President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in helping to cease fire between the Gaza Strip and Israel, and expressed hope that civilian casualties would cease, peace would prevail in the region and the search for a peaceful formula would continue.
The interlocutors discussed topical issues of bilateral relations and agreed to exchange high-level visits.
The Head of Egyptian diplomacy informed about the steps taken by the Egyptian authorities to ensure the safety of foreign tourists during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine noted that Egypt has always been and remains a comfortable tourist destination for Ukrainian citizens, and said that the Ukrainian government will continue to welcome the increase in the number of Ukrainian tourists in Egypt.
For reference: 320 000 Ukrainian tourists visited Egypt within the first 3 months of this year. The trade turnover between Ukraine and Egypt for 4 months of 2021 amounted to USD 583 million, of which Ukrainian exports to Egypt - USD 541 million.
