Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held a phone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammad bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

In accordance with the agreements reached between the leaders of Ukraine and Qatar during their telephone conversation yesterday, Dmytro Kuleba assured his interlocutor that Ukraine is ready to cooperate with Qatar in investment, trade, economic, energy and food security spheres.

The interlocutors have agreed that Qatar will consider a number of investment projects that may be developed in Ukraine, primarily into Ukrainian infrastructure – bridges, roads, railways, airports etc.

Taking into account Ukraine’s role as a guarantor of the global food security, the heads of the foreign ministries discussed exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to Qatar. The head of Ukraine’s MFA assured his Qatari counterpart that Ukraine could satisfy Qatar’s needs in these products.

“Ukraine is ready to become Qatar’s strategic partner in the region based on its transit potential and role of a guarantor of the global food security. We are ready to work together for the benefit of our countries”, Dmytro Kuleba said.

The interlocutors also agreed to apply joint efforts to overcome the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

Reference: The state of Qatar is a perspective partner of Ukraine in the Gulf region. The bilateral trade balance in 2019 increased almost by $ 20 million and reached $ 90 million.

A victory of the Qatari company "QTerminals" in the concession tender of the seaport "Olvia" (Mykolayiv) became an important stage in the development of cooperation between two countries. According to the terms of the concession agreement, the Qatari company will invest 3.4 billion Ukrainian Hryvnias over the next 5 years into the development of the Ukrainian port and its infrastructure.

On May 6, a telephone conversation between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani took place.
