On 18 November 2020, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba held a video conference with Ernesto Araújo, Foreign Minister of Brazil.

Dmytro Kuleba called for the intensification of relations between Ukraine and Brazil: “It is time to open a new chapter in our relations. Ukraine and Brazil share historical ties based on friendship and respect. Today Ukraine is looking for opportunities to intensify our relations in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture and innovation’’, the diplomat said.

The ministers noted the importance of Brazil’s President visit to Ukraine next year and agreed on active preparation for it.

Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine is particularly interested in increasing bilateral trade: “Brazil remains Ukraine's largest trading partner in South America. At the same time, the range of exports and imports can be significantly expanded’’, the minister noted.

Dmytro Kuleba proposed to hold Ukraine-Brazil business forum in the near future to present trade and investment opportunities and to further promote direct contacts between business representatives.

Dmytro Kuleba also informed Ernesto Araújo on the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian initiative to establish the Crimean Platform, a place for coordinating international efforts to de-occupy Crimea and counteract gross human rights violations in the temporarily occupied Crimea. 

The parties also discussed the problem of misinformation. The Ukrainian minister talked about Ukraine’s President initiative to open headquarters of an international office in Kyiv, which will address countering misinformation and fake news.

Dmytro Kuleba emphasized the invaluable contribution of Ukrainian community in Brazil in the development of Ukraine-Brazil relations.

The ministers agreed to hold a series of events to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Brazil next year.
