The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba took part in a video meeting of the member states of the International Coordination and Response Group for the victims of Flight PS752.
Also Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Canada, Afghanistan, the United Kingdom and Sweden took part in the online meeting.
The ministers of the Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation regarding negotiations on reparations by the Islamic Republic of Iran, which formalized a common approach to bringing Iran to accountability for the downing of flight PS752 and the payment of appropriate compensation.
The commitment of the members of the coordination group to cooperate in the framework of the preparation and conducting of negotiation is enshrined in the memorandum.
The Coordination Group designated Ukraine as the Spokesperson on the negotiations with Iran. An advisory committee of representatives of each member of the coordination group, who will take part in the negotiations, will assist the Spokesperson.
«These interstate negotiations with Iran regarding reparations is important and necessary step towards achieving the goal of the coordination group - Iran's responsibility and helping families in finding solace in this sorrowful time. They are important for bringing Iran to accountability and paying full compensation to the affected states and the families of the victims,» Dmytro Kuleba emphasized.
He also thanked other members of the group for coordinating their efforts in drafting the document, and Canadian Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne and his team for supporting Ukraine's initiative to sign the Memorandum.
The Head of the Ukrainian MFA stressed that the members of the group continue to advocate for responsibility, transparency, justice and payment of compensation to the families and relatives of the victims.
Note: The delegation of Ukraine for negotiations was formed by the Decree of the President of Ukraine №240 /2020 of 19.06.2020. The delegation is headed by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and includes experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Security Service of Ukraine, Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Police. The main goal of the Ukrainian delegation's participation in the negotiations is bringing Iran to international legal responsibility for the downing of PS752, receiving adequate compensation by all victims, by UIA and the state of Ukraine.
