On February 28, 2021, in Doha (Qatar) Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the State of Qatar held the third round of political consultations co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine (CDTO) Dmytro Senik and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Secretary General of the Ahmad Al Hammadi.
The parties discussed practical aspects of further development of the Ukrainian-Qatari political, trade, investment, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.
The delegations praised a steady increase in bilateral trade, which in 2020 reached the record of $139 million.
The subject of food security of Qatar was one of the key discussed during the consultations. “Ukraine is ready to make a contribution in ensuring the food security of the State of Qatar and expand the supplies of high-quality agricultural products and food”, Dmytro Senik noted.
The Deputy Foreign Minister and the Secretary General also discussed the expansion of the legal framework of bilateral relations, as well as the two states’ cooperation within international organizations.
The Ukrainian diplomat expressed gratitude to the Qatari partners for their humanitarian medical assistance in 2020, aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19.
Dmytro Senik and Ahmed Al Hammadi agreed to continue the practice of regular political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries.
For reference: The previous round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the State of Qatar took place in April 2019 in Kyiv.
The State of Qatar is an important partner of Ukraine in the Gulf region. The bilateral trade turnover in goods reached in 2020 $139 million 150 thousand with the volume of Ukrainian exports - $131 million 611 thousand. So far, these are the highest annual figures in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
