On 4 November 2020, First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova met with Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Larisa Galadza.
The First Deputy Minister and the Ambassador discussed Ukraine’s ongoing contacts with international partners with regard to the establishment and primary tasks of the Crimean Platform, and the participation of the Government of Canada in this process. They agreed that the Platform both brings significant importance in the context of the international community’s support to Ukraine, and also sends a clear signal to Russia, as the occupying power, that the occupation of Crimea cannot and will not be forgotten.
In this regard, the Ambassador of Canada has made it clear that her government’s position on Crimea will never change and that Canada will continue to make effort to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. She also shared her impressions of visiting the "Kalanchak" checkpoint to the occupied Crimea.
Emine Dzhaparova informed the Ambassador about the current situation in Crimea, the facts of the Russian propaganda among the population of the peninsula, the violation of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars rights, including the right to education, the ban on the Ukrainian channels broadcasting, the militarization of Crimea etc.
Emine Dzhaparova and Larisa Galadza also discussed the cooperation between Ukraine and Canada within international organizations, as well as gender issues, and agreed to continue effective cooperation to promote gender equality and feminization of the diplomatic service of Ukraine.
