27 May 2021 10:08

On May 27, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova held a video meeting with Wendy Morton, Deputy Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom for the European Neighborhood and America.

Emine Dzhaparova thanked the British side for Ukraine's continued support in the context of countering Russian aggression.

The conversation focused on the situation in Crimea and the interaction between Ukraine and Great Britain within the Crimea Platform.

"The tactical goal of the Crimea Platform is to return the topic of deoccupation of the Crimean peninsula to the active international agenda. This initiative will form a multilateral discussion between governments and parliaments of different countries, international organizations, think tanks and experts on ways to counter the temporary occupation of Crimea", said Emine Dzhaparova.

She added that the Crimea Platform codifies all aspects of the policy of non-recognition of the attempted annexation of Crimea and will identify clear tools for putting pressure on Russia.

The First Deputy Minister spoke about the work of the Ukrainian government at the national level to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity: “Ukraine has adopted a Strategy for the Deoccupation and Reintegration of Crimea, which confirms its determination to regain control of the peninsula through diplomatic means. We are also working to improve our regulations on sanctions and the status of political prisoners. "

The First Deputy Minister noted that Ukraine needs the support of international partners to advocate for the protection of the rights of Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia.

For her part, Wendy Morton noted Britain's support for the Crimea Platform, expressing readiness to work together on security and human rights tracks.

The interlocutors also discussed the development of the sanctions track of the Crimea Platform.
