Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba spoke by phone today with US Congressman, Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus Brian Fitzpatrick.

Dmytro Kuleba informed Brian Fitzpatrick about the current security situation in the zone of the Russia-Ukraine military conflict, Russia’s threats in the region of the Black and Azov Seas, caused by further militarization of the Crimean peninsula.

The Minister expressed his gratitude for the long-standing Congressional bipartisan support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Ukraine’s efforts in counteracting Russian aggression and deoccupying its territories.

The Minister and the Congressman discussed the situation around Nord Stream-2. Dmytro Kuleba underlined that “only a strong US position can block the completion of Nord Stream-2.” 

In this regard, the Minister expressed his gratitude to Congressman Fitzpatrick for his firm position on the necessity to consolidate efforts in strengthening energy security through sanctioning the Nord Stream 2 project.

The parties also specifically focused on the NATO summit in Brussels. Congressman Fitzpatrick emphasized that as Russia continues its aggression, Ukraine should have an opportunity to present its position at the NATO summit in a mutually agreed format.  

The Minister and the Congressman also paid attention to the development of the US-Ukraine strategic partnership, particularly in defense and security. The parties also discussed the support for domestic reforms in Ukraine with a focus on European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
