On 28 October, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mariana Betsa met with a delegation of staff members from the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Committee on Homeland Security.
Mariana Betsa thanked the U.S. Congress for its steadfast bipartisan support for Ukraine, its contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, and its advancement of relevant legislative initiatives.
The Deputy Minister briefed the American delegation on the security situation in Ukraine, including Russia’s continued missile and drone attacks against civilians and critical infrastructure.
“Russia attacks Ukraine every day, demonstrating that it consciously chooses terror over peace. The cost of aggression for the Kremlin must continue to rise. Increased sanctions pressure, strengthened air defenses for Ukraine, and unwavering U.S. support are essential to protect Ukrainians and achieve a just and lasting peace for our country,” the diplomat stressed.
The parties discussed strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation, enhancing export controls and efforts to counter Russian hybrid threats, providing continued security assistance to Ukraine, including bolstering air defense and protecting energy infrastructure ahead of the winter season, and holding Russia accountable for its aggression and war crimes.
The participants also discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace, including the course of negotiations and recent international contacts. The Ukrainian side reaffirmed its unwavering position that any peaceful settlement must be based on unconditional respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
The meeting also focused on further strengthening the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership and preserving the U.S.' leading role in promoting international security and stability.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continuing constructive dialogue and deepening bilateral cooperation.
