On May 8, the 57th meeting of the National Commission on Ukrainians Worldwide was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Iryna Borovets.

As a result of the National Commission meeting, 39 people received the status of a Ukrainian Worldwide, including citizens of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Kazakhstan, Latvia, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Turkmenistan, Japan, and stateless persons.

For reference:

A Ukrainian Worldwide is a person who is a citizen of another state or a stateless person, and who also has Ukrainian ethnic origin or is of Ukrainian descent.

As a reminder, the National Commission is a permanent body whose main task is to consider issues related to the granting, denial or termination of the status of a foreign Ukrainian.

In accordance with the Law of Ukraine «On Ukrainians Worldwide», a person who has acquired this status has the right:

• to work at enterprises, institutions and organizations or carry out other labor activities on the grounds and in accordance with the procedure established for Ukrainian citizens;
• to obtain a multiple-entry visa to visit Ukraine free of charge;
• to obtain an immigration permit for permanent residence outside the limits of immigration quotas in accordance with the procedure established by law;
• for free education within the limits of admission quotas to higher education institutions of Ukraine within the scope of the state order;
• to acquire Ukrainian citizenship in accordance with the procedure established by law.
