On May 7, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hosted the Round Table "Youth, Ukraine, Europe. Sustainability, recovery, and reconstruction", organized as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe.
The event was attended by the delegation of the Council of Europe, members of Ukrainian Parliament, representatives of state bodies responsible for youth policy, representatives of youth civil society organizations, as well as members of the Youth Council at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"We are grateful for the unwavering support of the Council of Europe, its member states and the Secretary General in these difficult times," Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Iryna Borovets stressed in her opening remarks. The Deputy Minister praised such important decisions as the exclusion of Russia from the Council of Europe in March 2022, the creation of the Register of Damages, strong support for President Zelenskyi's Peace Formula and other peace initiatives, efforts aimed at protecting the children of Ukraine, and practical support for the idea of creating an International Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression.
Iryna Borovets also emphasized the importance of supporting Ukrainian youth as the future of Ukraine.
"Ukrainian youth have always been the driving force of democratic processes in Ukraine, actively forming a strong civil society in our country, known for its effectiveness within and outside of Ukraine," Iryna Borovets emphasized.
The participants of the round table discussed topical issues related to youth support in the context of democratic transformations. Special attention was paid to the issue of youth participation in the development of an open society and democratic institutions.
Iryna Borovets also urged those present to join information campaigns aimed at opposing the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions, particularly the Olympic Games.
Strategies for the development of inclusive policies that would involve young people not only in Ukraine, but also throughout Europe were also discussed.
Special focus was placed on considering the perspectives and needs of young people when addressing major social issues, leading to social justice and equality. The round table was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and the Council of Europe.
