On January 27, the world honors the memory of millions of victims of the Holocaust, one of the most tragic pages in human history. Ukraine joins the international community in honoring the memory of the millions of victims of the Nazi regime.
This date has special significance for Ukraine. Some of the most horrific crimes of the Holocaust were committed on our soil. In Babyn Yar, Drobytsky Yar, and in cities and villages throughout Ukraine, the Nazis killed more than 1.5 million Jews. These tragedies are forever etched in our collective memory as a grim reminder of what hatred and intolerance can lead to.
Ukraine is proud of the thousands of its citizens who risked their own lives and the lives of their families and loved ones during World War II to save Jews from Nazi genocide. Among them are the Righteous Among the Nations, whose selflessness, humanity, and compassion remain an example for present and future generations.
Today, when Russian aggression has brought atrocities unseen since World War II back to Ukrainian soil, we are grateful to all the people, nations, and countries that are helping Ukraine save lives, protect people from aggression and terror, and fight for the just punishment of criminals.
Honoring the memory of the millions of victims of the Holocaust, Ukraine reaffirms its commitment to the principles of respect for human dignity and its readiness to resolutely combat anti-Semitism, xenophobia, and all other forms of discrimination. We continue to work to preserve the historical memory of the Holocaust and to support educational initiatives and international cooperation in this area.
Remembering the Holocaust is not only a tribute to the past, but also our duty to the future. Never again!
