On November 19, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa Maksym Subkh held a meeting with the group of members of the African media as part of their press tour to Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by journalists from Ghana, Guinea, DRC, Cameroon, Cote-d`Ivoire, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Tanzania and Chad.
On the thousandth day of Russia`s full-scale invasion of Ukraine Maksym Subkh informed the journalist in detail on the course of the Russian-Ukrainian war and stressed the unacceptability of any territorial concessions by Ukraine to pacify the aggressor.
The Ukrainian diplomat comprehensively explained the neocolonial nature of Russian foreign policy both towards Ukraine and in Africa to the journalists present.
The Special Representative of Ukraine informed the participants about the preparations for the Second Global Peace Summit and once again invited the governments of the African states to participate in it at the highest level.
Ukrainian diplomat called on African states to participate in the joint efforts of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children abducted by Russia.
The Special Representative of Ukraine showcased the current results of implementation of the humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine and described its important place in enhancing continental food security, emphasizing the inadmissibility of Russia`s use of hunger to put pressure on vulnerable countries.
Maksym Subkh called on African countries to participate in the third International Summit on Food Security, noting the unique opportunity of the African journalists to cover this event live.
The Special Representative of Ukraine highly praised the role of the journalists present in spreading truthful narratives about Ukraine in Africa and called on them to further counter Russian destructive propaganda in the information space of the states of the continent.
The journalists` questions covered, in particular, the topic of expanding the involvement of African states in the efforts towards establishing just peace in Ukraine. The vision of the Ukrainian side on the prospects and mechanisms for increasing the dynamics of interaction with the African continent was also of considerable interest to African journalists.
Maksym Subkh noted the recent achievements of Ukrainian diplomacy on the African continent, in particular the opening of seven new embassies during 2023-2024, and expressed readiness of Ukraine to further increase dynamics of political contacts with Africa at the highest level.
The Special Representative of Ukraine highlighted the potential of cooperation between Ukraine and African states, particularly in the political, trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian spheres, emphasizing the interest for implementation of joint projects and exchange of experience and technologies.
Ukrainian diplomat emphasized Ukraine`s strong commitment to further development of relations with Africa in the spirit of equality, mutual respect and trust, and thanked the governments and the peoples of the African countries represented at the meeting for the firm support of the sovereignty of Ukraine on the international arena.
