On May 3, the Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subkh, received the Ambassador of Palestine to Ukraine Hashem Hasan Dajani.

Maksym Subkh expressed deep concern about the situation in the Gaza Strip, particularly the escalating number of casualties among the civilian population of Gaza, as well as significant losses among representatives of international humanitarian missions and the journalistic corps.

The Ukrainian diplomat emphasized the critical importance of saving lives and ensuring unimpeded access for UN structures and international humanitarian organizations to the Gaza Strip. This access is vital for providing essential aid to the Palestinian population of the Strip.

The parties discussed the prospects for normalizing the situation in the region and post-war settlement efforts for Gaza. They agreed that implementing the two-state principle, with Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security, is the only way to achieve comprehensive and lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Maksym Subkh noted that Ukraine recognizes the right of the Palestinian people to establish their own state in accordance with the principle of a two-state settlement.

At the same time, he expressed hope that the Palestinian side would more decisively express its support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as our state's efforts to counter large-scale Russian aggression.

The Palestinian side informed about Palestine's official application for full membership in the UN.

The interlocutors also discussed several pressing issues regarding Ukrainian-Palestinian relations, particularly the prospects for establishing effective cooperation in ensuring food security of Palestine and its inclusion to President Volodymyr Zelensky's "Grain from Ukraine" initiative.
