On September 8, President of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa held a meeting of the Bureau of the National Commission.
At the beginning of the event, Mariana Betsa informed about the results of the work of the National Commission for the reporting period and outlined the priorities of the Commission for the near future, in particular, in the context of Ukraine’s participation in the elections to the UNESCO Executive Board for the period 2025-2029.
The Deputy Minister highlighted UNESCO’s significant efforts to overcome the consequences of Russian aggression in the areas of the Organization’s mandate within the framework of the Program of Action and Emergency Assistance to Ukraine.
The heads of sectors of the National Commission presented their activities and discussed the results of work in UNESCO bodies, where Ukraine is a member. Representatives of ministries and institutions coordinating the work of relevant UNESCO bodies presented the key achievements, the current initiatives, the analysis of problematic issues and the vision of further prospects for interaction with the Organization. The Bureau approved the updated composition of the National Commission.
During the meeting, the President of the National Commission initiated the Second Forum of UNESCO Associated Schools. This platform will help improve communication between the sectors, as well as strengthen diplomatic and educational ties by involving representatives of the embassies of those countries that hosted Ukrainian children this year within the framework of international support programs.
The heads of sectors of the National Commission agreed on the next steps to actively promote Ukraine’s interests in UNESCO and strengthen its positions in this authoritative Organization.
