Mariana Betsa thanked Alexander De Croo for his decision to visit Ukraine at such a challenging time and stressed that Ukraine counts on UNDP’s continued active engagement in addressing the devastating consequences of Russia’s ongoing armed aggression.

“We highly value UNDP’s practical assistance and support, particularly in restoring civilian and critical infrastructure and carrying out humanitarian demining. We are especially grateful for your efforts to restore Ukraine’s power generation capacity – support that has brought light, heat and hope back to thousands of Ukrainian homes,” Mariana Betsa said.

Since February 2022, more than USD 1.2 billion has been mobilized for Ukraine through UNDP mechanisms to support recovery and development and strengthen the institutional capacity of the Government of Ukraine. A significant part of these funds has been allocated to restoring power generation capacity, including generators, high-voltage and other critically needed equipment.

Alexander De Croo, in turn, reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to continuing its support for Ukraine and helping address the country’s most pressing needs amid Russia’s ongoing aggression.
