On November 28, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mariana Betsa met with the Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Ukraine, Juan Pedro Schaerer, who recently began his work in our country.

The parties paid priority attention to the need for international institutions to respond appropriately to the Russian Federation’s systematic and gross violations of international humanitarian law during the ongoing war of aggression against Ukraine.

"I call on the ICRC to use all available mechanisms to ensure unhindered access to Ukrainian prisoners of war held by the Russian Federation, to stop the practice of executions, torture, and inhumane treatment of Ukrainian soldiers, as well as to strengthen the international response to Russia’s war crimes," Mariana Betsa emphasized.

The Deputy Minister thanked the ICRC for its efforts to overcome the negative humanitarian consequences caused by Russia’s daily targeted shelling of civilian and critical infrastructure in Ukraine, and also called for further enlargement of the Committee’s activities, primarily in frontline areas.
