Olexandr Mischenko paid a working visit to the Republic of Poland
28 November 2025 19:11

On 27–28 November, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko paid a working visit to the Republic of Poland.

The visit began with a tribute to the memory of Daniel Sztyber, a Polish citizen who voluntarily joined the defence of Ukraine against Russian armed aggression and heroically lost his life on the frontline. A wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw with the participation of the fallen soldier’s parents, Mirosław and Grażyna Sztyber. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Mischenko expressed his heartfelt condolences and emphasized that Ukraine deeply values the courage and sacrifice of Daniel and all foreign nationals — our Heroes — who gave their lives in the struggle against our common enemy, Russia.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister held a series of important meetings with representatives of the Polish government. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, he met with Deputy Minister Robert Kupiecki. The sides reaffirmed close coordination between Ukraine and Poland within international organizations, as well as cooperation in the areas of European and Euro-Atlantic integration and continued comprehensive support for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.

At the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, Deputy Minister Mischenko held talks with Paweł Kowal, the Government Plenipotentiary for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. The parties discussed Poland’s practical contribution to Ukraine’s post-war recovery, including in infrastructure, energy, and healthcare. In addition, the organization of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2026), which is expected to be held in Poland, was addressed.

At the Ministry of National Defence, Deputy Minister Mischenko met with Deputy Minister Stanisław Wziątek. The sides discussed the regional security situation, strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, and Ukraine’s current needs in the field of security, particularly in the context of countering hybrid threats and Russian disinformation campaigns.

During a meeting with Grzegorz Berendt, Special Representative of the President of Poland for Historical Diplomacy, the parties discussed issues of historical memory, enhanced humanitarian cooperation, and the need to counter Russia’s hybrid attempts to politicize shared history. The importance of a professional, balanced, and open dialogue between historians and academic communities of both countries was emphasized.

As part of the visit, Olexandr Mischenko also participated in the "Polish-Ukrainian Future Forum 2025", which served as a platform to discuss key areas of bilateral cooperation — from migration policy and business partnerships to practical steps in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction. In his remarks, the Deputy Minister emphasized Ukraine’s openness to Polish initiatives, the importance of supporting Ukrainian displaced persons, economic integration, and Poland’s involvement in large-scale infrastructure projects across Ukraine’s regions.

Special attention during the visit was given to a meeting with the Ukrainian community in Warsaw, which plays a vital role in defending Ukraine’s national interests abroad. Participants discussed the diaspora’s role in countering Russian disinformation, promoting Ukraine’s narrative in the Polish media space, cooperation with local institutions, and civic engagement. Particular emphasis was placed on the volunteer movement, which since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion has become a key pillar in supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine, evacuating civilians, delivering humanitarian aid, and treating the wounded. Olexandr Mischenko expressed his gratitude to members of the community for their active civic stance, dedication to Ukraine, and joint work for Victory and the future recovery of the state.

Concluding the visit, Deputy Minister Mischenko gave an interview to the Polish Press Agency (PAP), in which he emphasized the resilience of the Ukrainian people, the strategic importance of Ukraine–Poland partnership, and the need for united resistance to Russia’s aggression — both on the battlefield and in the information domain.
