Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mariana Betsa held a meeting with Daniel R. Bischof, the newly appointed Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
The parties exchanged views on the outcomes of the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, with special attention paid to the agreements reached during the meeting between the President of Ukraine and the President of the United States.
Mariana Betsa expressed gratitude to the U.S. Administration and Congress for the strong assistance that the United States has provided and continues to provide to the Ukrainian people in repelling the ongoing armed aggression by the Russian Federation, as well as for President Trump’s personal efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The interlocutors discussed the current battlefield situation, Russia’s escalation of terror against civilians and critical infrastructure of Ukraine, and further joint steps that could promote a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace. This includes developing effective security guarantees for Ukraine and increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.
The Deputy Minister drew attention to the emergency situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, where Russia’s terrorist actions pose a critical risk of a nuclear incident. “The world must prevent a second Chornobyl. Together, we must work to restore the Zaporizhzhia NPP to its rightful owner—Ukraine—without delay," stated Mariana Betsa.
