On April 4, 2024 Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi had a meeting with Under-Secretary of State - Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Andžejs Viļumsons. The meeting was held in the framework of the visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal to Latvia.

The parties discussed the continuation of Latvia's provision of military-technical assistance to Ukraine, which the Government of Latvia plans to maintain at the level of 0,25% of GDP annually until 2026. The Deputy Minister informed the Political Director on the urgent needs of Ukraine, in particular in weapons, ammunition and the training of servicemen of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Particularly the sides discussed the need for the soonest possible beginning of the full-fledged operation of the "Drone Coalition for Ukraine" initiative led by Latvia.

In this regard, the parties welcomed the progress in negotiations on the conclusion of a bilateral agreement on security commitments.

Mykola Tochytskyi and Andžejs Viļumsons also discussed Latvia's support and advocacy for the Ukrainian Peace Formula. The Deputy Minister thanked Latvia for the participation in the Peace Formula and its promotion, in particular the points of “Restoration of justice”, “Food security”, and “Release of prisoners and deported persons, including of the kidnapped Ukrainian children”. The parties coordinated Latvia's participation in the upcoming Global Peace Summit.
