At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, a group of nine Latin American journalists from seven countries - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru and Mexico - visited Ukraine from May 27 to June 1.
During the visit, the journalists met with the President of Ukraine, the First Lady, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Advisor to the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children's Rights, members of the Parliament, representatives of leading Ukrainian civil society organizations, and took part in the presentation of the first-ever Communication Strategy of the MFA “Ukraine - Latin America and the Caribbean”.
Latin American journalists saw firsthand the consequences of the Russian occupation in Borodyanka, Bucha, and Irpin. During a trip to the Chornobyl exclusion zone, which is the site of one of the largest man-made disasters in human history, the journalists saw the global risks posed by Russian aggression against Ukraine.
In addition, the press tour participants talked to the relatives of Ukrainian servicemen held in Russian captivity as part of a meeting at the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
The key topics of the visit were preparations for the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, nuclear and radiation safety, crimes of ecocide and abduction of children committed by the Russian Federation.
The visit of Latin American media representatives was organized with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
It is worth noting that in November 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a press tour for 15 journalists from 10 African countries, which focused on food security.
As a reminder, on May 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine presented the first Communication Strategy “Ukraine - Latin America and the Caribbean” for 2024-2026.
